Lizzy's Story

Lizzy was a single mom with two young kids, one in preschool and one at home.

After finding herself homeless through a multitude of challenges, she tried starting over again in Washington. With no car. No furniture and no household items, Lizzy was discouraged.

Finding Network through a friend, Lizzy moved into our transitional housing, was able to find furniture and was given a place to call home. Not long after, Lizzy reconnected with her children’s dad.

They repaired their relationship, decided to get married and now live together as a family! Both are working on stable long term employment, Lizzy is in the process of getting her license and the kids are with mom and dad together as family.

When Community Mattered Most

We met Sarena after one of our community leaders Eunice brought her to an english class.

Sarena and her husband moved from place to place, whatever they could find, to live with their 3 kids. On top of the challenges in stable housing, their oldest child Thomas, was diagnosed with autism. The family struggled on every front and we felt it was needed to step in and start providing the support they needed.

We began with school enrollment for the kids. The biggest challenge was they didn’t have permanent residence anywhere and Thomas needed a school where he could get evaluations and professional support. After getting them placed in our housing, we were able to get all of the kids enrolled.

For Thomas, our team was able to provide even more support through our community leader Eunice. Since Sarena and her husband now had jobs, Eunice stepped up and brought him to meetings and appointments all over the region.

Today, Sarena and her husband have jobs, a stable housing environment for their family, transportation, education for their children and even increased support services for Thomas’ autism.

Stable. Healthy. Safe.

“I was living in fear and spent my days hoping for a place of refuge from my husband for my children. But his source of income was also our only stability. Leaving him meant homelessness...

Network gave my kids and I the physical safety and stability to start fresh. Because of the wide range of support Network offered, my kids had shelter, school, food and security… I even had the ability to get a job and to be a nurturing mom for the first time.

Thank you Network Tacoma family. Because of you fear is in my past and hope is my future.”

Sincerely,

Kate
